Life on the season

Your first season: a survival guide

What nobody tells you before your first winter or summer season, from money to rest days.

20 October 2026 · 1 min read

Your first season is exciting, tiring and over faster than you expect. A few habits make it much better.

Arrive early

Get there a week before training starts. You will find your way around, sort out your pass and equipment, and meet people before the rush.

Budget for the first month

Pay usually comes at the end of the month, and deposits, food and kit add up. Arrive with enough to cover your first four to six weeks.

Look after your body

Long days on snow or in the water are hard work. Eat properly, warm up, and take your rest days seriously. Injuries end more seasons than anything else.

Keep records

Note your working days and keep copies of contracts, payslips and invoices. It makes tax time, and any disagreement about pay, much simpler.

Plan the next one

Ask for a reference before you leave, and ask guests and colleagues to leave a review. Update your BeOutthere profile and calendar at the end of the season: next season's hiring starts sooner than you think.
